摘要:本文是英语阅读论文,Many ways have been put forward by researchers to alleviate the reading anxiety after thenegative impact of English reading anxiety on English reading had been recognized, but mostresearchers just give suggestions without exploration.

Generally speaking,scientists regard anxiety as an emotion state of “apprehension, a vague fear that is onlyindirectly associated with an object” (Scovel, 1978:34); or “the subjective feeling of tension,apprehension, nervousness, and worry associated with an arousal of the autonomic nervoussystem” (Spielberger, 1983:1).The research on FLA started in the field of the educational psychology in the 1940s. At theearly stage, anxiety was only considered as a by-product of the studies on foreign or secondlanguage acquisition. Term “language anxiety” or “foreign language anxiety” was not presented.In 1960s, scholars were aware that anxiety interfered with second language learning andperformance, but no documentation could verify that relationship at that time. Since the 1970s,the issue of anxiety in language learning has attracted more and more attention. Horwitz andCope treated foreign language anxiety as a separate and distinct phenomenon particular tolanguage learning for the first time. Some scholars defined FLA as following:

2.2 Review of Foreign Language Reading Anxiety (FLRA)
From the 1990s, researchers began to focus on the specific aspects of language anxiety,such as anxieties caused by listening, speaking, reading, and writing, attempting to separatethem from general language anxiety respectively. Thanks to the research done, the researchershave a comprehensive understanding about general foreign language anxiety and specificlanguage anxiety, that is: foreign language learning anxiety in listening, speaking, reading andwriting skills behave differently.In 1999, Saito and Garza carried out a preliminary study of reading anxiety in 30 intactfirst-semester classes of Spanish, Russian and Japanese. Saito et al. (1999) proved that foreignlanguage anxiety is a unique type of anxiety which is different from general foreign languageanxiety. Reading anxiety can be thought as a type of specific phobia or an anxiety producingreaction towards reading.There are few definitions on FLRA at home and abroad. Table 2-2 is two detaileddefinitions about the FLRA.
