This section will begin by reviewing the introduction to the overall research onlearning engagement.The previous research on learning engagement's influencingfactors and measurement method is then followed.Finally,the pertinent research onforeign language engagement will be presented.
2.1.1 Overall research tendency of learning engagement
The study reviews domestic and foreign research on learning engagement from2013 to 2022.The English-language articles were selected from the Web of Science(WOS)primary database using the key phrase'learning engagement'.In the end,atotal of 21,429 documents were recovered.Chinese articles were chosen from theCNKI database of CSSCI.Only the CSSCI articles that contained the keyword'xuexitouru(learning engagement)'were retrieved.
2.2 5E Teaching Model
Bybee et al.devised 5E teaching mode at BSCS(Biological Science CurriculumResearch).Bybee(2006)presented a chart detailing the origin of the 5E teachingmethod(Figure 2.3).The BSCS 5E Instructional Model can be traced back to JohannHerbart,John Dewey,Heiss,Osbourn,and Hoffman's philosophy and psychology.Based on the Atkin and Karplus learning cycle,the BSCS 5E model was created.Thespecifics are depicted in Figure 2.3.

5.1 Results of the Learning Engagement Questionnaire
The learning engagement questionnaire is the primary instrument for collectingdata in response to two research queries.All participants complete the questionnairetwice,prior to and following the experiment.This section demonstrates the results ofthe pre-and post-questionnaire in an explicit manner.The analysis of data betweenEC and CC is illustrated first,followed by the analysis of data within EC.
5.1.1 Between group analysis of EC and CC
In this part,the results of the pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire areanalyzed to compare EC’s and CC’s learning engagement in order to verify the effectof the Problem-oriented 5E Model on learning engagement.
