Liao Qiyi (廖259-276) tries to introduce information theory into translation study, and discusses thefollowing three aspects: the concept of information theory in translation, translation criteriaand compensatory equivalence, and compensatory balance in English-Chinese translation.However, his research doesn’t refer to the application of information entropy in translationtheory, and how to deal with the fuzzy language in the text by the method in informationtheory.Shao Lu, an associate professor majoring in translation, puts forward the law of fuzziness(邵，“论翻译” 84-91). Through some examples, she verifies that precision is always arelative feature in translation practice, theory and even the process of it, while fuzziness, orvagueness, an absolute and universal predicate. Then she tries to introduce informationentropy, a measure of the uncertainty associated with a random variable, to measure thegrade of fuzziness in literary translation (邵，“信息熵” 108-113). When it is feasible for theevaluation of translating fuzzy language, it will provide a completely new and objectivestandard for evaluating TT.To sum up, the study of fuzzy language in western emphasizes the perspective of semanticsand pragmatics. Their researches seldom show any tendency in translation, except indeveloping fuzzy matching in machine transliteration. By comparison, though researches inChina paid a lot of attention on fuzzy translation, interdisciplinary research is sporadic. Thelaw of fuzziness will provide us a new perspective of learning the translation of fuzzylanguage, and the introduction of information entropy into the assessment of translated text isan initial attempt, which needs further research and improvement.
