The Fuzzy Theory, which was first put forward by L. A. Zadeh in 1965, has drawn a lot ofattention and absorption in natural science world as well as in social sciences. The classicaltwo-valued logic, which can be explained as “either 0 or 1”, is then challenged by themulti-valued logic, which suggests that the grade of membership of an element can be anyone from 0 to 1. It has, obviously, already exerted a great influence on the research of linguistics sinceFuzzy Linguistics, a new rising academic field studying on the fuzzy language from theperspective of fuzzy sets, has come into being. Almost simultaneously, the fuzzy theory hasbeen applied into the translating field to make a contribution to the translating study both intheory and practice. Especially in the lately three decades, due to the rapid development offuzzy theory, many scholars in translating field have been showing great interests in the studyof the fuzziness in language as well as in its cross-lingual translation. Many essays and booksabout fuzzy translation have been published abroad. However, they mainly concentrate on thefield of computer and information technology. In the recent decades, the usual method theyrefer to about the translation of fuzzy language is fuzzy matching, such as the results achievedby N. Joshi, S. Karimi and so on, which are for the purpose of developing the technology ofmachine transliteration.When Fan Shouyi for the first time applies the principles of fuzzy mathematics into theassessment of translated texts, the study of fuzzy language from the translating perspectivebecomes more and more popular (Fan 2-9). Through checking China Academic JournalElectronic Publishing House (CNKI), the author of this thesis has found out that up till now,nearly four hundred papers focusing on the translating of the fuzzy language have beenpublished during this period (from 1987 to 2011). However, most of them are concerningabout the translation skills of fuzzy language, for instance, translating the fuzzy language intoprecise one, the fuzzy language into fuzzy one, the precise language into fuzzy one, or theprecise language into fuzzy one; equivalent translation, variation translation, omission,amplification, free translation; and translating the void into solid, the void into void, the solidinto void and so on (毛&范 11-15；蒋 84-86).
