gestrom (1987)’s Activity Theory. The existing writingmodels attempt to describe the writing process in non-academic context. The firstmodel for academic writing proposed by Paltridge et al. (2009) depicts the writingprocess of individual writers. Like other writing models, Paltridge et al.'s modelfocuses on the individual writers' cognitive processes, which cannot reflect the RAwriting process in classroom context. However, RA writing should be interpreted insociocultural context, because it is a complex set of joint efforts of the student writer,other classmates, the teacher, and the previous researchers of the particular field.Under the framework of Activity Theory, the model of RA writing proposed in thisstudy can explain EFL learners’ RA writing from a more fully socioculturalperspective.
