摘要:This thesis mainly has two innovations. First,innovation of study subjects. As faras the author has investigated,at present, no one compares A New English Course andContemporary College English and studies them together in academic circles.

In the process of pre-use evaluation, these two coursebooks will beanalyzed from the perspectives of discourse,language content, language skills andteachers' book as well. The process of foreign langus^e learning is fimdamentally a process of languageinput and output. Listening and reading are main ways of language input To ourstudents, reading is the primary channel of language input. It not only provides thestudents with the linguistic resources they need for communication, but also helpsthem to improve tiieir language capabilities morally and culturally. Therefore, theselection and arrangement of texts have great influence on English teaching.

Conclusion


By doing the pre-xise evaluation and the in-use evaluation^ the author obtains whatevaluation of the two coursebooks of NEC and CCE themselves and evaluation of theusers are alike. Both pre-use and in-use evaluation draw the same conclusion: NECaccords to the syllabus more closely than CCE on the larger varieties of contentdesign, more flexible and practical vocabulary learning method, and richer types oftopics. NEC meets more needs of teachers and students in teaching and learning andgains more popularity than CCE.Judging from the statistics in the questionnaire and the interview, we can findthat NEC gains more popularity than CCE both among students and teachers.Generally speaking, NEC is better than CCE in these respects: (1). NEC offersstudents more chances to practice their listening and speaking abilities in English,which is quite important and indispensable for the students; (2). The text topics inNEC are closer to students' daily life and can be of practical use in Englishcommunication,which can arouse the students' interest; (3). NEC not only offersenough input of English culture, but also provides the users with abundantinformation of other cultures and cultivates the students' awareness of mterculturalcommunication. So in the investigation,more teachers and students think that NEC ismore interesting and feel more satisfied with NEC.
