5 Data Analysis and Discussion


5.1 On Research Question 1
How is non-English majors’ students’ English autonomous learning ability in the onlinelearning environment?With the development of society, it appears the evidence of the overlapping andintegration of many subjects, the talents who have the certain ability in many directions andare distinguished in one aspect, the inter-disciplinary talents, are more and more important forenterprises. How should our full-time colleges and universities do? According to social needs,scholars have had ideas about the reform in education, which breaks single and close trainingmode to train comprehensive and inter-disciplinary talents to explore a new talents’ trainingmode. In order to cultivate new talents, the inter-disciplinary talents, the key is how tocultivate students’ autonomous learning ability in the online learning environment. How iscollege students’ autonomous learning ability at present? Before metacognitive strategiestraining, the researcher gives the questionnaire survey of autonomous learning ability tosubjects. It includes 84 items, which is composed of 7 parts. All the items of the questionnaire(See Appendix1) are worked out, which is based on the materials of Pang Weiguo (2003),Wen Qiufang (1996), O’Malley(1990) and Oxford and so on. The data from the questionnaireare analyzed by SPSS 19.0. The following the table is the condition of subjects’ autonomouslearning ability. (Table5.1)

Conclusion


With the rapid development of modern society, the economy has globalization and thecommunications between countries are increasingly deepening, college students who havegreat English ability and who have a great the autonomous learning ability are more and moreneeded. Educators have realized therefrom that the educational ultimate goal in university isto make students become lifelong learners, which the autonomous learning is a prerequisite oflifetime learning. The autonomous learning in the online learning environment is an effectiveapproach that can encourage learners to move from teacher-dependent to autonomy.
