摘要:The paper is a practical experimental research on the relationship between metacognitivestrategies and non-English majors’ students’ autonomous learning in the online learningenvironment, which has a very important realistic significance.

1 Introduction


1.1 Research Background
With the development of information, computer networks have walked into thousands ofhouseholds. The Internet is a global, publicly accessible communication system that connectstogether numerous people, groups and organizations in many different countries all over theworld. The computer networks are having a tremendous impact on the ease with whichindividuals, groups and organizations communicate with each other,which are also making iteasier to share information and knowledge around the world. Within an educational contextcomputer networks now are providing an infrastructure of teaching and learning, which hashitherto not happened.Videos, computers and the Internet have also been introduced into English class inChina.When I was a pupil, lectures used chalk and talk. Then came the audio-visual era duringwhich lecture theatres were fitted out with facilities to display TV programs and videorecordings. Now people are experiencing the marked presence of computer systems asteaching aids within our lecture theatres. Furthermore, computer system to support their ownlearning English activities is being used increasingly by students.The network is like a double-edged sword,which not only brings convenience forstudents’ learning, but also provides a lot of disadvantages such as a large variety of computergames, multifarious news, colorful video programs and so on, which make many collegestudents indulge in them. Therefore, this also makes a great demand on college students’autonomous learning ability. It is very important that cultivating college students has greatautonomous learning ability, which is also the task of today’s college English teaching in themultimedia-network environment.

1.2 Significance of the Study
The paper is a practical experimental research on the relationship between metacognitivestrategies and non-English majors’ students’ autonomous learning in the online learningenvironment, which has a very important realistic significance.A profound reform is taking place when the world enters the 21stcentury, with theemergence of a series of new terms and concepts with “e-”, such as e-mail, e-home,e-business, and e-service and so on, a university education has happened a great change.Autonomous learning in the online learning environment is undoubtedly one of the best waysto a good university education at present and in the future. But the network environment withcomplicated and colourful, college students’ English autonomous learning ability is not high,and when they faced a large number of learning materials, they didn’t know how to choose,lost their learning direction, even led to fear, weariness in English learning and had notlearning effect well. Under the circumstances, teachers need to cultivate college students’metacognitive awareness.In the teaching field, especially in the field of network teaching, metacognition has veryimportant significance and actual using value. A large number of empirical researchesdemonstrate that: if a student has a higher metacognitive level, he can arrange effectively hisown learning process, such as self-planning, self-regulation, self-monitoring, self-evaluation,self-management, which can improve his learning efficiency.
