2.1 Introduction
People often use a polite or vague word or phrase to replace another word orphrase that is thought of as too direct or rude. The word or phrase used to replaceanother one is named euphemism in English. Euphemism is not only a kind oflanguage phenomenon coexisting in language of various nationalities, but also a kindof social phenomenon and cultural phenomenon. As a natural and indispensable partof language, euphemism has a great effect on daily communication and has beenarousing wide interest. Just like a kind of lubricant, euphemism contributes to theharmony and friendship in interpersonal relationship.
