摘要:小学生具备一套有效合理的词汇学习策略是非常必要的。如果能充分利用词汇学习策略,扩大学生的词汇量,则有利于英语综合技能的提高,有利于激发他们对英语学习的兴趣。

s to search the valid and effect ways of learning vocabulary, the majority ofresearch papers are mainly focused on the vocabulary learning strategies of teenagerssuch as the junior and senior students, while the researches on primary school studentsare very few. The thesis tries to provide some implications and insights on primaryschool students' using vocabulary learning strategies. In this sense, it is a relevantlyinnovative and significant research.Secondly, the educational documents have attached much importance to Englishvocabulary learning in primary schools especially Beijing primary schools, so it isvery necessary and significant to carry out this research. According to the learningstrategy content criteria in the New Standard, "Language learning strategies refers toall kinds of actions and steps students use for more effective learning anddevelopment. Teachers should bear the awareness of helping students to form themost suitable language learning strategies and acquire the ability of constant adjustingtheir language learning strategies. " Likewise, vocabulary learning strategies, aspecific branch of language learning strategies needs to be equipped for students. TheNew Standard also requires the 5th graders who have English classes from GradeThree to master from 600 to700 words and about 50 phrases set by goals of Level 2.The Beijing English Curriculum Standard in 2002 (manuscript, or the Beijingstandard) requires schools to have English classes from Grade One and the 5thgraders in Beijing primary schools to master 1000 words and about 100 phrasesrelated to the Level's topic range.Thirdly, comparing with teenagers and adult students, primary school students asyoung learners have their unique characteristics in learning English. They mainlydepend on their language acquisition device while adult students study the languagerules consciously. They have a greater empathic capacity, so they will not feel asmuch anxious as mature learners do in second language communicating process.Young learners have advantages in imitating phonological features, so they usuallyreach higher level in pronunciation than mature students. They generally employ morestrategies related to the development of pronunciation skills. They are more active andenthusiastic in learning and extremely curious about the new world of the Englishlanguage and eager to learn more at the beginning stage. When they are greatlyinterested in, curious about and eager to learn a language, their emotions will betransferred with a long focused attention. If they face some difficulties usuallyvocabulary difficulties, and there are no instruction of any vocabulary learningstrategies to help them, they will get upset, bored, and lose interest in learning Englishor easily give up when they found themselves lag behind in English learning. In thisway, the difficulties of learning English will increase obviously, and the gap betweenstudents will broaden. Besides, their negative attitude towards English will have a badimpact on their further learning of English. So it is exceptionally urgent to helpprimary school students to learn vocabulary with flexible, reasonable, and appropriatestrategies, which not only makes their language learning process more interesting,more effective and more self-directed, but also plays a very crucial and critical rolefor their ever-lasting learning of English throughout their lives.
