Can we combine the connection in seriesand linked ways, and express it in visual schema to enable us to learn and memorizethe English words better? What's more, by consulting related information, the authorfound although it was universally acknowledged that mind mapping was useful in thememorization of words in foreign countries, still it has not been proved by empiricaldata up to now. thesis based on mind mapping can hardly be found in terms ofresearch paper which represents research result. However, thesis based on conceptmapping can be found everywhere. This is a sharp contrast between the two of them.Generally speaking, there are not enough researches on teaching practice involving inguidance of mind mapping, and experience on how to conduct teaching with mindmapping is not adequate. Research paper on mind mapping can be hardly found in ourcountry, let alone thesis concerning teaching. Besides, researches on mind mapping'sassistance to vocabulary memorizing strategy in foreign countries focus onjunior-high school, while applied research in elementary school is still weak. In myopinion, the author thinks it has important time background reasons and necessity toexplore simple and practical English words learning strategy and classroom teachingmethods; in addition, it is a good way to combine mind mapping with English wordsmemorizing, thus the pupils' memorizing of English words can be accelerated with thehelp of mind mapping. Therefore, the author decides to conduct the applied researchon mind mapping's guidance on the English vocabulary memorizing in ruralelementary school.


Chapter II   Literature Review


2.1 Overseas research summary
Mind mapping is first developed by the UK scholar Tony Buzan in the early 1960s,which was used as a new note-taking method at first. Now it has been developed intoan organized thinking tool. Following the features of divergent thinking, mindmapping shifts the focus of attention to the center of the chart, the main trunk of thesubject radiates towards all directions from the center. The branch consists of a keypicture or key words written on the connecting lines, used for arousing associations.The secondary subject is also represented in branches, which are attached to branchesof higher level. All branches form a common joint point and the end of it is open.From this we can see that mind mapping is treelike divergent structure in itsappearance. In 1971, Tony Buzan started to record his research results in books andthe concept of radiant thinking and mind mapping were gradually formed, whichattracted high attentions in academic circles step by step. As a result many books andresearch paper on mind mapping appeared, among which there were articles onapplication of mind mapping to teaching research. By 1993, Tony Buzan hadpublished about twenty books, including "Mind Mapping-- Radioactive Thinking","Ten Ways of Waking Up a Creative Talenf\ "the Instruction for Use of Brain",nineteen monographs on the subjects of brain, creation and learning, and a collectionof poems. Therefore he became world famous as Mr. Brain.
