First of all, this article provides a review of domestic and foreign literature and presents the existing results and existing problems in the field of logistics of the China-Europe transport corridor, the problems of railway transport and the proposed ways of solving them, the problems of road transport and the proposed ways of solving them, an analysis of existing initiatives and their impact on living standards and economies of the corridor countries. Secondly, it defines the conceptual categories of transport corridor logistics, infrastructural and coordinated legal development, summarizes the optimization theory, and also outlines the mechanism of influence by the problematic points of the corridor and coordinated economic growth.

2 Literature review

2.1 Research on China-Europe Transport Corridor

This section gives an overview of the current literature on the transportation network under the China-Europe transport corridor. The most appropriate articles published in the transportation-related journals are selected using keyword search and content analysis. The contribution and methodology of each article is also summarized. Another part of the review is the review of the current literature on the administrative and legal aspect of China-Europe transport corridor.

2.2 Research on physical barriers along the transport corridor

2.2.1 Research of problems of land transport

Over half of the papers study either the rail or maritime network, which are the most important transport mode in the new Silk Route Economic Belt (“the Belt corridor”) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (“the Road corridor”), respectively. Among these papers, Jiang et al. (2018) [15], Lim et al. (2018) [16], Yang et al. (2018) [17], Zhang et al. (2020) [18], and Wang et al. (2018) [19] have studied the structure of the transportation network, while the others mostly focus on the economic impact of BRI on the countries. The integrated rail and road networks have also been studied; these are the main transportation modes for the 6 corridors in the BRI context, namely, the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, the New Eurasian Land Bridge, the China- Central Asia-Western Asia Corridor, the China-Indochina Peninsula, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Corridor[20]. Wang and Yau (2018) [21], and Wu et al. (2019)[22] have studied the effect of the network structure of several corridors on the connectivity of the BRI countries. Wang et al. (2020) have examined the effects of rail and road transport on the economic growth of the BRI countries[23]. Lee et al. (2018) studied the structure and impact of the 6 corridors, and proposed the possible connectivity between the railway and maritime networks in Eurasia[24]. Li et al. (2018) have evaluated the importance of 23 grain distribution nodes based on their centrality in the freight railway, highway, and waterway networks, which is then used to assess the distribution capacity of these nodes[25]. Several research pieces involving ATNs in the multimodal transport network analysis exist. Chhetri et al. (2018) have developed an indicator-based assessment framework to evaluate the position of the key global logistics cities[26].
