3.3 Personnel management
3.3.1 The philosophy of Starbucks leadership
According to Rollinson (2008:351) leadership is “a process in which leader and followers interact in a way that enable the leader to influence the actions of the followers in a non-coercive way, toward the achievement of certain aims or objectives”. The philosophy of Starbucks leadership is to keep an intimate and friendly relationship between the managerial body of the company and its employees at different levels. To achieve this managerial goal, the management has established  a managerial principle that is used to motivate their workers effectively. From the very beginning of the company, the leaders of Starbucks have seen their employees as partners in order to narrow the gap between high level management and the front-line workers. – why is this important? Furthermore, managers of Starbucks are also w required to work on the shop floor to reduce the distance between different levels within the business. A Starbucks shop maintains a very small number of employees at one shop, usually from three to six people, which makes it easier for the manager to be able to establish a close communicative relationship with the workers. At the same time, this small staff size will enable staff members to communicate with each other more effectively, by reducing psychological distance between the workers and the management? -review

Another important aspect of the leadership philosophy of Starbucks is that they treat their staff equally. For instance, all staff members are included in the benefits programmes including part-timers and suggestions and complaints from all staff members are treated with equal importance. I. They effectively motivate their employees and, as a result, they are able to enthuse and inspire  the staff. This in turn has led to an enhanced the sense of participation and teamwork across the organization.

This empowers the employees to work happily in the organizational environment which is important in generating improved service standards and leads to increased customer satisfaction – again, where is your evidence that Starbucks follows these principles? III. By communicating with the staff effectively, the Starbucks managers successfully enhance the integrity among the employees – what do you mean by this?
