The case that will be focused on is the Qantas industrial dispute in 2011. In Qantas 5-years plan, it decided to increase its international profitability by relocating jobs overseas and slashing about 1000 jobs which caused unions' dissatisfaction. The strike was unprecedented due to the action Qantas made to against Unions. After failing in negotiating with Qantas firm, three Unions (the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA), the Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) and the Transport Workers Union of Australia (TWU)) began to strike in 29th October. In the plan, it was a short-term industrial unrest in order to protest layoffs and salary problems. Beyond their exception, Alan Joyce, the CEO of Qantas, declared stopping the entire flights of Qantas around the world in response to this strike. After 2 days, federal government got involved in this dispute. The order was given by Fair Work Australia (FWA) that all actions taken by Qantas and Unions had to stop at once. In this event, Qantas lost 200 million dollars per day and over 68 thousand passengers were involved into this dispute (Cooper 2012). In this strike, Qantas took peculiar actions that made the strike world-shaking.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald (2011), in July, Qantas International Airlines pilots made the first strike action in 45 years, and told passengers Qantas labour disputes by radio without company authorization. Since this strike, unions had implemented a series of strikes based on not inflame the premise of the situation, which made a compromise in the bargaining by the strike pressure. Pilots' strikes activities delayed the fight plans for thousands of passengers. In August, Qantas announced that net profit for the year once more was to $250 million, but the company issues a profit warning, planning to increase wage to executive and layoffs as a result of poor market conditions (The Sydney Morning Herald 2011). Qantas announced to adjust the focus market because of restructuring in the company that would cut 1000 jobs. After that, there were several of pressures as shown in the following figure.

According to the figure above, combined with relationship in Qantas dispute 2011, satisfying with pressure of wage gap and working condition, trade unions provoked strong protests undoubtedly. Facing pressure of a series of strikes led to severe economic losses and decline in credibility, Qantas management made the decision of stopping the entire flights. State involved in this industrial dispute by the significant pressure on personal safety, health or well-being of the people or significant damage to the Australian economy (Cooper 2012; Dziedzic 2011& Reith 2011).
