Problem Scenario
A small retail outlet is trialling a basic database system for tracking orders and payments. Orders are recorded with a description of the order and the amount owed on that order (plus some other data; see diagram below). Payments received are also recorded. Note that, as far as the DB system is concerned, customers can pay any amount at any time; payments are not linked to particular orders.
Requirements
You are required to implement a report builder to generate some of the key business reports required by management:
• How much is owed by customer 20002? (Use two queries and subtract in VB.)
• Allow the user to enter their ID in a text field and find how much is owed by this customer. (Similar to previous.)
• How much in total is owed by all customers whose last name is "YOUNG" (include extra data so that some customers with this name have orders and payments)? (Two queries needed here as well.)
• Show all the payments made in a given month of a given year (the year and month are entered in text boxes).
• Show all the customers who have paid more than $1000 in total – for a rewards program.
• Show all the order transactions that a particular salesperson has been responsible for in a given month of a given year. The user inputs the month and year are written in a text boxes. The salesperson’s ID should be shown in a drop-down box loaded when the program is initiated.
Also the following break reports are needed:
• Show a break report of all payment transactions for a given year and month broken down according to salesperson. The break should show the salesperson and the total.
• Show all order transactions in the current year, broken down by month. The current year is taken from the system.
For these queries you will need year, month and last name text boxes. You will also need a saleperson drop-down list, including the salesperson’s name in the list. It is a good idea to have the current year and month as default when the program loads, obtained using the Now function.
Using VB.NET, you will implement a HTML report program. For example, the program will allow a user to enter a month and year (i.e. month and year entered as separate inputs). It will then employ these user inputs to generate reports. The report will be in HTML format, and will appear in a browser window pop-up. Any HTML generated should be echoed to a multiline text box, with scrollbars, on the form. Clear the text box first before adding new text to it.
An HTML “about” page, About.html, should also pop up from a menu button in your program. This page should contain your student details, details of assignment (number, semester, subject), and all attribution: every source used in the assignment, including the work of students or tutors. The help page, Help.html, should also have your name and details near the top, but this will briefly describe the purpose and operation of your program.
You can write the Help and About web pages however you wish: in a text editor, using Frontpage, using Save As… in Word, etc.
As in the previous assignment, your code should be appropriately documented with:
• Your name and student number at the top of every module,
• Comments before every function or sub you create, including button and menu presses, (see isValid documentation in mValidation),
