1. Introduction介绍

The influence of multinational corporations has increased drastically. This particularly the case for developing nations, they compete with one another in order to attract foreign direct investment. Conventionally, the International Labour Standards (ILS) was laid down by the International Labour Organization (ILO) (Bronstein, 2009). In this paper,a discussion is presented on how labour laws can be rendered more effective for the sake of addressing the plight of workers. Further, the discussion analyses how the current International Labour Organization through International Labour Standards protects the workers across the world and the associated challenges.

2. The International Labour Standards国际劳工标准

2.1) what are International Labour Standards?
The international labour standards generally refer to legal conventions that are drawn up by the constituents of the ILO and they state the essential rights and principals at work. Theyare laid out in conventions of the International Labour Organization and together they constitute the international labour code (Gladstone, 1986).  
2.2) What is the role of the ILS?-The Aims of the International Labour Organisation
It also promotes competition that is constructive by fostering collective rights like taking part in the decision making process, upgrade the motivation and productivity of the employees, increasing the overall demand by adding the earnings, and the promotion of active labour market policy and employment creation (Valticos, 1979).

3. Advantages of the ILSILS的优点

3.1)Protection of Employees, Ensure equity and fairness

The International Labour Standards are designed specifically to look out for the interests of the employees(Hepple, 2005). Their rights and freedoms are stipulated on the fundamental conventions that are ratified by approximately 80 per cent of the member countries (Hepple, 2005).In the protection of the labour force from the four respective, termination of the employment, forty hour week, minimum wage fixing and maternity protection. That means that the ILS ensures that all parties are treated fairly and there is equity through dialogue and measures of checks and balances. This is particularly the case for casual labourers who are most susceptible to being treated unfairly as they are normally not operating on a contract basis.
3.2)Setting Minimum socially acceptable conditions
The ILS is the principle based standard, it also required on the guild line of the working condition of the work force, so that these are vital as they ensure that employees are not subjected to working conditions that are unsafe or degrading all in a bid to reduce costs. This particularly happens in developing countries that are looking to attract foreign direct investment.
