摘要:本文是小学英语论文,That is the departure of my study which arouses my interest in course design,coursebook evaluation, and especially in the sequence of multiple-syllabus, as in thecase of Oxford English for primary schools (Shanghai edition).

yllabus may take its form in different levels, for example, school level and statelevel.At school, “syllabus is a list of the topics, books, etc. that students should study ina particular subject at school or college—compare CURRICULUM”. “Curriculum isthe subjects that are included in a course of study or taught in a school, college, etc.”(Oxford Advanced Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary 7thEdition) “A syllabus isan outline and summery of topics to be covered in an education or training course.”(Wikipedia) given by the professor or the exam board who supervises the coursequality.“A syllabus can be broadly defined as a specification of the work to be coveredover a period of time, with a starting point and a final goal” (Cunningsworth,2002:54). Therefore, what is taught and in what order it is taught are the main focus ofa syllabus. According to Nunan (2001:73), “a syllabus consists of lists of content to betaught through a course of study. Key tasks for the syllabus designer are the selectionof the items and their sequencing and integration”.At schools or colleges, syllabus and curriculum are often fused (Marsh, 2004),and usually given by the professor to the students at the first class of the semester.According to Oxford dictionary, a syllabus is a “should do” file, informing the courseparticipants what they are going to learn, what books should be read, and how theassessment is managed.

2.2Curriculum Standard, Curriculum Syllabus, and LanguageTeaching Syllabus
The three concepts can be easily confused and need to be clarified. In China, theNational Curriculum (valid before 1952 and after 2001) and the National Syllabus(valid between 1952 and 2001) play almost the same role in the county’s educationsystem, although named differently. (Luo, 2011) In general, both of them are outlineof English teaching issued by the Ministry of Education, a presentation of the nation’swill in the subject of English, and a fundamental basis and Reference for teaching,assessment, test and coursebook compiling.Curriculum is a particular way of ordering content and purposes for teaching andlearning in schools. (Walker, 2003) Restricting the discussion down to the ChineseEnglish teaching context, the National English Curriculum Standard and the NationalEnglish Teaching Syllabus are synonym.In order to differentiate this pair of synonym with “language teaching syllabus”,many countries use guidelines or standards instead of curriculum teaching syllabus,for example, Japan: Teaching Guidelines; U.S.A.: The English as a Second LanguageStandards for Pre-kindergarten through Grade 12; National Standards in ForeignLanguage Education; Standards for Foreign Language Learning. (Luo,2011)In this thesis, syllabus refers to the “language teaching syllabus”, which isdiscussed in the field of course design, to be specific, in the practice of coursebookcompiling; Whereas, curriculum standard refers to the guideline or outline given bythe state level.
