摘要:From the previous analysis of the current research, the conclusion of this experimentwill be divided into three parts. Firstly, this experiment shows that age of acquisition(AOA) effects of Chinese (LI) did not affect reaction time in translation judgment task,only AOA effects of English (L2) affected reaction time.

Some words are learned earlysuch as apple, eye, etc, while some words are learned late such as justice,astronaut, etc.Carroll &White (1973) first proved that AOA affected speed of lexical access andproduction. Then Izura & Ellis (2002) confirmed that AOA was the crucial factor in wordrecognition, finding the reaction speed of the early acquired words was faster than that ofthe late ones in word recognition task. That means there is a processing advantage for theearly acquired words in lexical processing. Therefore,the definition of AOA effect is thatthe early acquired words are more effective than the late ones in lexical processing, theformer enjoys a shorter processing time than the latter in lexical processing.The AOA effect was first demonstrated for object naming speed (Carroll & White,1973). Several early research indicated that there was a AOA effect in lexical recognitionand production tasks such as in visual lexical decision tasks (Gilhooly and Gilhooly1979; Morrison and Ellis 1995,2000; Stadthagen-Gonzalez et al 2004), auditory lexical decisiontasks (e.g. Turner, Valentine, & Ellis,1998),object picture naming tasks (e.g. Barry,Morrison, &Ellis, 1997; Barry, Hirsh,Johnston, & Williams, 2001; Carroll & White,1973; Ellis & Morrison, 1998),semantic categorization tasks ( Brysbaert et al. 2000;Ghyselinck et al.2004),word naming tasks (Brown and watsonl987; Morrison and Ellis1995,2000),silent word reading task (Zevin and Seidenberg 2002), and fixation durationstask in sentence processing (Juhasz and Rayner 2003). Apart from the previous earlyresearches on AOA effect, there are an increasing number of studies on it recently, whichare very representative and typical.

2.2 Research on the age of acquisition effect of the first language and flie second language
It is known that monolinguals can only speak one kind of language, while bilingualscan speak two kinds of languages (LI and L2). Currently, a series of experimentsconcerning with LI lexical output and recognition of monolinguals and bilingualsexplored LI AOA effects with controlling words' frequency,familiarity as well as otherfactors. Morrison and Ellis (1995) conducted the experiment with lexical decision task toinvestigate the role of AOA effects in English. They concluded that the AOA effect was adominant element in the lexical processing of English. Later on,a similar study wasconducted by Brysbaert & Lange & Wijnendaele (2000), claiming the existence of DutchAOA effects. Chen (2004) also proved the AOA effect of Chinese was a vital factor in therecognition of Chinese double characters words, meanwhile, it influenced Chinese lexicalnaming task and semantic judge task independent of words’ frequency. In addition therewere numerous studies concerning LI AOA effect in monolingual lexical processing viadifferent paradigm in English, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, French, etc (Bonin,Fayol,(feChalard, 2001; Catling & Johnston, 2006; Ghyselinck& Custers & Brysbaert,2004; Havelka & Tomita,2006; Juhasz,2005; He and Shu, 2003).Some internalexperimental studies are inconsistent with the above researches, holding that AOA effectis a principal factor in lexical processing of Chinese (Guan and Fang, 2001,2002; Chen,Wangl, Wang2, Peng, 2004; Chen,You, Zhou, 2007; Bai, Wang, Li,Hu, 2010).
