Language is another factor which is related to cross cultural adaptability, as English is an international language and spoken in most parts of the world but even then it is necessary to learn the local language. The spouse and the family of an individual is also very important factor during selection process, as without family and spouse it is always difficult for an expatriate to adjust him/herself in any other country.


Past experience of an individual also matters in this situation. Although there is difference between the domestic and international experience but even then the basic corporate working experience matters a lot for an expatriate.

All the above discussed factors are kept forth while selecting an expatriate and if these factors are not considered while selection process the result can be the failure of expatriate and time and money of organization can go waste.


Another aspect of selection of expatriate is proper method of selection as discussed above in the chapter of data analysis now days the most commonly used method of selection is psychometrics. By using of this particular method organization can better know capabilities and abilities of an individual because basically the mental power shows the actual ability of an individual and shows the strength that how good can an individual perform within an organization. As discussed and proved in the chapter of data analysis that psychometrics is the mostly used method of selection of an expatriate.


There are some other methods of assessing the expatriates in practice as well and those are assessment centers and coffee machine system. Assessment centers show the practical abilities of an individual as in this method an individual is assessed in the form of practical assignment. Coffee machine system is sort of a casual system used for the selection of an expatriate, in this method there is a casual conversation between a manager and an employee near the coffee machine and that employee tell the manger about the person who is eligible for going abroad for international assignment.


This particular method is normally used when an organization is looking for expatriate in urgent. For example if an organization is urgently looking to fill up some position which is left by another expatriate, and the newly selected expatriate had to complete the assignment. So sometimes these hasty decisions can be harmful as well for the organization. But normally these decisions are not harmful for organization because the organization always has the previous record and performance of the selected expatriate.


Another important point which has been discussed in the literature review is the importance of an expatriate. An expatriate has a great importance for an organization because the expatriate is the one who is running the international project of the organization and a lot of money and other resources of the organization are on stake. As international assignments help the organizations to achieve their international goals and objectives, that can give the organization competitive advantage in international market.
