摘要:Listening plays the most basic role in the communication, when people make aconversation, listening is the first step to help hearers get information. In traditional Englishteaching process, teachers apply a variety of teaching methods to strengthen students’listening comprehension ability.
Chapter Five Results and Analysis
5.1 Data Analysis of the Questionnaire Survey
In this chapter, data collected will be discussed and analyzed; the questionnaire surveywill show the background of students’ English ability and their attitude to listening study. Thesubjects are 140 studentsFrom table 5-1, we can know the students’ English listening level and their awareness of pragmatics theory from the ten questions. This table shows that students are poor at Englishlistening; most of them are afraid of English listening and regard listening as the most difficultskill to acquire. This questionnaire also shows student’s attitude towards listening. In thelearning process, students pay more attention to the listening study but always get bad results.There are about 42.1% students think listening is the most important skill in learning English,but most them neglect to practice listening comprehension ability. This table has investigatedthe learning time of all the subjects. We can see most of students spend about two hours ontraining English listening, because they have a two hours listening class every week; Out ofclass, there are only 27.1% students spend more than two hours on practicing listeningcomprehension, so we can see many vocational college students are not interested in listeningstudy and some of them haven’t enough time to do listening practices. They prefer to improvetheir listening competence only depend on their teacher, and expect their teacher introducesthem some listening skills. So it is important for teacher to explore a new listening approachto improve students’ listening competence.

Conclusion
This thesis investigates the application of Conversational Implicature theory in thehigher vocational college English listening teaching based on Grice’s ConversationalImplicature theory and some related pragmatics theories. The author studies some ClassicConversational Implicature and Neo-Conversational Implicature theories such as CooperativePrinciple, Politeness Principle and Three Principles, which can be applied to higher vocationalcollege English listening. The data collected from the questionnaire survey, two tests and theinterview have proved that the conversational implicature theory can be applied to the highervocational college English listening teaching and can improve students listeningcomprehension ability. From the experiment, it shows that students are short of pragmaticstheories and aspire to learn some related knowledge to guide their listening. The authorconducts an empirical study by introducing some conversational implicature theories intolistening class, so as to cultivate students’ pragmatics awareness and enhance their listeningcompetence.
