It has elegant appearance consisting of steel and glass; the glass on the outside, tilting with different angles, reflect the changing sky view of London. When the spire is open the whole building looks like a castle up in the sky. It is said that the designer got the inspiration from the towering church spires in London, as well as the ship masts over River Thames. The Shard is actually a 'vertical city', with facilities like hotels, offices, residential flats, shops, cafe restaurants, etc. There lies an observatory between 68th and 72nd floor, where the view of London can be best appreciated on sunny days. Visitors are expected to amount 500,000 per year. Shard London bridge has opened a new era for mega-high-rise buildings and has become one of the well-known landmark of the city.
