      Ⅲ. Popular culture and students

Popular culture forms a major psychological part of the lives and life styles of youngsters. In the process ofgrowing up , students need to identify with something , and a large proportion of them choose the popular culture ,which being readily accessible everywhere , and highly acceptable to young people. For many young people , popularculture serves as a valuable tool that helps them to cope with the difficult task of building and maintaining an identity.Popular culture can often have a significant impact upon the lives and at titudes of young people around the world ,partly by providing them with some form of meaning in a concrete way. Some teachers accused students of beingnaughty , inat tentive , and incapable of leaning. The truth is that many students can recite the lyrics of popular songswithout difficulty , but find it hard to memorize a poem or a mathematical formula. They do not make particularefforts to memorize one song or the faces of different movie stars , but these facts seem to become imprinted on theirminds without efforts. To many youths , what some stars they like have to say is more important than lessons taughtby teachers. So , by understanding what influences students , teachers could make use of popular culture to facilitatetheir teaching.

     Ⅳ. Popular culture and teaching

Popular culture touches the lives of students , and grows out of their natural experience and interests. I f teacherscan make use of popular culture in teaching , when students see that their own experience is reflected and the workthey do can meet their needs , learning is more likely to occur. The use of popular culture in teaching creates an environment that enhances learning. When teachers designlessons using examples drawn f rom popular culture , students will find them easy to follow. The classroom atmospherewill become more enjoyable as learning takes place in a relaxed manner and students are engaging in activities theylike.
Teachers should present English in a way that allows students to interact with one another , and to exchangeinformation , at titudes and feelings. Popular culture is essential to students’personal and social identities. It is ever2present on their daily lives , and gives them meaning and satis faction , so using popular in the traditional class can beone way to add life and variety to lessons. For example , movies and highly stimulating music , which are seldom usedin the traditional classroom , can fulfil the students’psychological and social needs , and evoke their affective emotionand imagination. I f teachers take care to present them with a high level of interest , excitement , and importance ,students ate more likely to like it , and to be anxious to find out what is so interesting.

    Ⅴ. Teaching strategies

Since students will be more motivated to learn when learning content and activities center on examples f rompopular culture , teachers could make use of popular to facilitate language teaching. They may keep the following threepoints in mind to make their lesson more meaningful and beneficial to their students :
    1. Teachers should have a right at titude towards popular culture , and be aware of its power to influence you论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
