     The idea of get t ing learners to acqu ire Eng2lish in the p rocess of do ing o ther task s w as de2veloped in India by N. S . P rabhu in the 1980s .P rabhu made a st rong Commun icat ive App roachP ro ject in Bangalo re, sou thern India . He pu tfo rw ard many k inds of task s, and designed thelearn ing con ten t s in to all k inds of commun ica2t ivetask s . The learners study English by f in ish2ing the task s . He though t learners may learnmo re effect ively w hen their m inds are focu sed onthe task, rather than on the language they areu sing . P rabhu′ s Bangalo re P ro ject can be re2garded as a f irst t ry that task s can be designedin to a un it in classroom design. The P ro ject hasb rough t language teach ing mo re at ten t i on . Some teach2ers clai m that any act ivity that invo lves thelearners can be called a task, w hether th is is aro le- p lay, sto ry w r it ing o r even a grammar ex2ercise .
