nce and Exclamatory Sentence. (Zhang, 2003: 467) And the English politics news titles in yahoo turn up mainly for the following two types: Declarative Sentence and Imperative Sentence. We all know that the title is closely linked with the news content. What’s more, in politics news, it usually reports some important events about a country or government and the international relationships. Therefore, it demands to express the clear political position and status. And in news titles, the Declarative Sentence and Imperative Sentence are two of the most direct types of expression. These two sentence structures are clear and direct so that it is easy for the readers to understand and gain the news information from the titles quickly. That is why the rate of using these two forms is high in news titles. And in the 100 English politics news titles I studied, the proportion of using Declarative Sentence is 97% and 55 per cent of them express people’s speech acts and purpose directly. Moreover, the Imperative Sentence tends to be dull, dry and direct by comparison. Consequently, it is very likely to hurt the people, and threaten the people’s face, forming an impolite language and blocking the conveyance of communicative intention. Now, let us see some examples.
 Declarative Sentence:
(1) Pope worries that big powers control decision-making
(2) White House raises hopes of missile deal
(3) Lhasa monks accuse China of lying over unrest
(4) UN extends observer mission in Georgia to monitor cease-fire
(5) Pope says unilateral acts undermine United Nations
Imperative Sentence:
(1) UN and Au want 26,000-strong force in Darfur quickly
(2) G8 calls for swift release of Zimbabwe poll results
(3) 9/11 family members seek pope’s blessing of ‘sacred ground’
(4) Europe urges more oversight of Iranian nuclear program
(5) UN warns of looming NKorea food crisis
In addition to these two types of sentence, there is another kind of sentence, e.g. Question, including General Question and Special Question.本论文英语论文网www.51lunwen.org整理提供 However, this sentence form is very few. Importantly, however, it expresses people’s communicative intention indirectly through asking the question and hiding the speech acts. Therefore, it does not hurt people’s face directly. Instead, it protects the face of people for a mild attitude. Thus, this is one way of making positive politeness. Besides, it is one of the commonest, simplest and most indirect ways. For instance:
(1) What’s in name? WTO members in appellation tussle
(2) Is death estimate for Darfur too low?
 2. Indirect speech
In the website of yahoo news, many English politics news titles turn up for the indirect speech. And there are these two main types of indirect speech: the indirect speech of Statement and the indirect speech of Command.

2.1 The indirect speech of Statement
In news titles, “said” in indirect speech is usually substituted for a colon. And it normally involves two types, i.e., A: B and B: A. “A” is the people of the news or the name of an organization while “B” is the direct speech or the indirect speech. (Zhang, 2007: 02) The two parts complement each other. In order to attract the reader, the places of “A” and “B” are often exchanged. Sometimes, “A” is first, and sometimes, “B” is first. For example:
(1) Investigator: Hariri killed by criminals (A: B)
(2) Report: NYC Freedom Tower plans found in trash (A: B)<论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
