1.2 Significance of the study
There are some thesis involving in memetics or imitation writing approach, but the subjects theyfocus are middle school students or undergraduates, this research chooses the non-English postgraduatesas the subjects, which is different from others’ research.This thesis is carried out under the new linguistic theory—memetic, which makes more peopleknow this new theory. With some new teaching approach proposed and became popular, the traditionalimitation writing approach has been ignored for a long time. The result of this study can validate thefeasibility of imitation writing approaching in postgraduate’s English paper writing. If it works, it cangive a suggestion to those teachers who teach this course for postgraduates; if not, it’s also a helpfulattempt in the study of English writing approach.

Chapter Ⅱ literature review

This part will make a literature review of the definition of the memetics and imitation writing,introduce the research on the memetics at home and abroad, and elaborate those researches on imitationwriting approach. Another task in this part is introducing the relationship between meme and imitationwriting approach.

2.1 Meme and imitation writing approach
This chapter will give a statement to the definition of meme and the definition of imitation writingapproach. And then the author will elaborate the relationship between memetics and imitation writingapproach from there aspects: meme and language, meme and imitation, and memetics in imitationwriting approach.

2.1.1 Definition of meme
The word “meme” and “memetics” firstly showed up in Richard Dawkins book The Selfish Genein 1976. He described memes as units of cultural transmission which “propagate themselves in thememe pool by … a process which, in the broad sense, can be called imitation” (Dawkins, 1976). Since itwas proposed, the term “meme” has attracted a large number of scholars’ attention and has been definedin different ways, which involved in many subjects. This causes a disagreement on the definition ofmeme and memetics.
