2 Literature Review


2.1 Theoretical Studies
People always seek the causes to interpret their own behaviors and others' behaviors in thedaily life. For example, why did he treat me rudely today? Why did you do so well when moststudents in your classmates did poorly? How do people explain these questions? How doexplanations people offer for outcomes effect their subsequent thought, emotion,motivationand behavior? All these questions will be focused on and resolved by attribution theor “Attribution causes" have been supported well by a great number of researchers. Theyare cognitions we generate when we manage to interpret the causes of behaviors of ourselvesor others (Josh, 1992). They are the process through which we attempt to determine the causesbehind others’ behavior (Earhard etc., 1995). Various causal interpretations for success andfailure are attributions (Ormrod,2000). An attribution refers to 'perceived cause of an outcome;it is people's explanation of why a particular event turned out as it did,(Seifert,2004).Chinese researchers and experts have their ideas for causal attribution. Causal attributionrefers to the cognition people generate when people attempt to explain the sources of behavior.From literal meaning, it means that outcomes of behaviors or events are attributed to somecauses. It's commonly said that attribution is to seek the causes of outcomes or results (Liu,2010). Attribution refers to the deductive process through which people seek to makeattributions for others' behaviors or their own behaviors. Specifically,the observers causallyexplain and deduce the process of behavior for others or themselves (Zhang,2009).

2.2 Empirical Studies
Since the 2000s,foreign researchers and educators have devoted lots of attention toattribution theory in Chinese educational field. Most of research has focused on attributiontheory and the students' study motivation, the students' academic performance (Chen & Wang,2007). Researchers have paid much attention to the roles of parent-child attributions instudents' academic achievement (Bar-Tal, 1978). Researchers make research about students'academic achievement from different perspectives. The details will be shown in the followingsections.
