摘要:从理论上讲,以往的研究对DMS涉及具体DMS,DMS和连贯关系,务实的僵化的DMS学习者的语用功能。它清楚地表明,大多数研究者都集中在DMS在日常的谈话或书面话语,而很少受到人们的重视,在公开演讲不太像独白的DMS。
Conclusion
The present study focuses on the use of DMs and their functions in preparedEnglish speeches. Theoretically speaking, the research of DMs in public speeches is asupplement to the study of DMs in general. These speeches are written in advance, andexpressed orally. As a result, the style of public speeches possesses the characteristicsof both spoken and written language, which as a specific genre cannot be ignored inthe future study of DMs. The present study is expected to shed light on further studiesin this field.Practically speaking, public speaking ability is gaining increasing recognition bystudents. Speaking competitions like“CCTV Cup and “21st Century Cup are heldannually and over 1,000 colleges and universities across the country participate inthem and the number of students participating directly reaches 100,000. Besidescertificates of CET-4 or CET-6 or any kinds, communicative competence is more important for English learners to gain self- confidence, to realize potential, to get apromising job, and to seek further development. When people want to communicatesome information to many other people, public speaking is an effective instrument.
Because of this, communicative skills for making a public speech should be paidattention to in language teaching and learning. As one of the communicative skills, theuse of DMs serves as signposts to guide the audiences‘ interpretation of the speaker‘smessages and thus help to accomplish their communicative goals.However, DMs are not taught explicitly in language teaching classroom and evenexcluded from the teaching materials. As a result, Chinese English learners may lackthe conscious perception of them [35][41] (He Anping & Xu Manfei and Li Qiaolan‘s,2003, 2004). The present study shows that even for the advanced EFL learners someDMs are overused and some are underused. In short, the proper use of DMs contributesto successful communication. Nowadays the essential thing in Chinese students‘English learning is to improve their communicative skills.But little attention is paid tothe use of DMs,which is a very important tool in communication among nativespeakers.To improve EFL learners‘ communicative skills, it is one of teachers‘ majortasks to instruct students how to apply DMs in communication.
