imes+over/upon译为“超越……倍”
(1) His income this month was up 3 times. 他这个月的收入增长了2倍。(是上个月的3倍)(2) She is 3 times over/upon your age.她的年龄是你的4倍。
1.3.3　ntimes+what从句
The industrial output in the factory is more than 30 times what it was in 1970这家工厂的工业产量是1970年的30倍多。
1.3.4　%+above (higher than); register+%+increase.“增加了百分之……”
(1) His income this month was 40 percent above that of last month.他这个月的收入比上个月增长40%。(2) The output in April registered a 20% increase over March.4月份的产量比3月份增长20%。经过以上两例句可看出,用百分比表示净增数。1.3.5　ntimes the+名词+of;ntimes that of (1) This tree is 5 times the height of that one. 2.　与“减”有关的倍数表达句型
汉语中表示减少普通不用倍数表示,而用“减少到原来的几分之几”或“减少了几分之几”。所以英语中表示倍数减少的句子均可汉译为分数格式,相当于“除”的意义。
2.1　借助decrease, drop, fall, shorten, weaken, step/speed/go down等词或短语                   2.1.1　decrease等+(by)ntimes表示“减少/缩短……到原来的1/n”或“减少/缩短……n-1/n”
(1) The expenditure was decreased (by) 5 times.开支减少了4/5。(减少到原来1/5)(2) Production costs have dropped 4 times.消费本钱减低了3/4。(纯减数)消费本钱降低到1/4。(剩余数)(3) When voltage goes up by 5 times, the current strength goes down by 5 times.电压升高5倍,电流强度降低4/5。(注:to表示减少、降低到什么水平,包括基数在内。reduce to 2/3减至2/3)
2.1.2　decrease等+by a factor of+n
(1) The speed reduces the average speed by a factor of 6.该速度低于均匀速度的5/6。(2) A fast decrease by a factor of 9 was noticed immediately.很快就发现已降到原来的1/9。
2.2　借助比拟构造
