Chapter1 Introduction

1.1 Background Information
Over the past several decades, language teaching has witnesseddramatic changes in the ways language from the teaching are taught andlearnt. The focus of instruction has been moved from discrete grammaticalstructures to the communicative ability; the emphasis of classroomactivities has been shifted from teacher-dominance to learner-centeredness; the role of teachers has changed from being the main sources ofinformation to the facilitators of learning by providing directions andinstructions for students; and the role of students has altered from beingthe passive receivers of knowledge to active seekers of information.Twenty-first century classrooms challenge traditional, teacher-centeredcurriculum to meet the increasingly diverse needs of students and makethe required increases in achievement gains. Language teachers nowrealize that the focus in language teaching is no longer the question“what shall we teach?”. Instead, the question we should first ask is“how shall we create these conditions in language classrooms?”

1.1.2The New National English Language Curriculum Standardadvocates the use of TBLT.
The New National Curriculum Standards for English Education issued bythe Ministry of Education emphasizes the cultivation of students’comprehensive language proficiencies, and also advocates the use of theTask-based Language Teaching. The students are encouraged to communicatewith each other and enforce their sense of participating by the means ofcooperation and competition of accomplishing tasks. At the same time,students guided by their teacher deal with and accomplish the tasks andadjust their emotions and strategies so that their language proficiencywill be promoted and goals advocated in the New National EnglishCurriculum Standard will be realized. The New Standard explicitly statesrequirements for the students of Grade 9, the requirements are specifiedas follows:
1. Be able to gather and organize material according to the purpose ofthe writing;
2. Be able to draft short letters and passages independently, editingthem with the teacher’s guidance;
3. Be able to use common linking devices to express oneself fluently andlogically in writing;
4. Be able to write simple descriptions of people or things
5. Be able to write simple paragraphs, instructions and explanationsaccording to prompts given in pictures or tables.

1.1.3The importance and goal of language writing
To master a second language, it is important to acquire proficiencyin listening, speaking, reading and writing. In these "four proficiencies",writing is the last but not the least important. We mention listening andspeaking first only because at the initial stage of language acquisition,we have to use our ears and mouths more. Actually, it is very importantto have enough practice of writing. Writing is so indispensable that somelinguists and TESOL specialists believe that no one can really master asecond language if he ignores writing. Why is writing indispensable?First, writing enhances the accuracy in using a language. As论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
