5.1 Major Findings of the Study
From the analysis of the English and Chinese corpus of Hong Kong EducationLaw which emphasizes on the translation of VO collocation, some valuable resultshave been achieved.The first part is that in all the finding types of VO collocation, collocation likeParticiples + O. makes up the most percentage of VO collocation, which reaches 449;then collocation of V. + 0. ranks the second, with its number reaching 239; thenfollows with the collocation of V. + TO V. + 0., with its number reaching 119; theconstruction least in number is V. + Prep. + 0., only reaching 51. The most importantresult is that some English collocations are likely to be translated into VO collocationsin Chinese. And with the new and unique notion of verb-like noun and verb-likeadjective introduced, more specific collocation can be listed,that is the verb-like nouncentered collocation and the verb-like adjective centered collocation in the previouschapter, which sheds some light on rules of the translation of nouns and adjectives inEnglish into VO collocation in Chinese. And also the study shows some features ofthe English and Chinese corpus respectively, which indicates the significance of theuse of verbs and nouns,and the frequency of VO collocation translation. And at last,some reasons of translating of those particular constructions into VO collocations are???also presented in the previous part as to get a deeper understanding of VO collocation.For translators who have mastered the rules, they can make proper treatment in thetranslating process of VO collocations so that a high quality of translated work can begained. More expectations are hoped of its positive influence and suggestions on thelearning and teaching of VO collocation translation.

Conclusion


As the title implies, this thesis mainly emphasizes on three parts, namely,corpus-based linguistics,legal texts translation (Hong Kong Education Law), and VOcollocation translation.The relation between verb and their collocative objects is quite complicated,what has been studied about the VO collocation just presents the tip of the iceberg. Ifall the frequently used verbs and objective collocations can be listed out into a longtable, it absolutely has a tremendous contribution to the language study and languagepedagogy.
