摘要:This thesis is composed depending on my memories, photos, audio records,journals that volunteer group members and I kept when we taught in Guizhou, as wellas letters we received from students later after the volunteer teaching.
Chapter Six: Reflections and Discussions
6.1 Reflections on English Education in the Western Part of China
When discussing the English education in the western part of China, we've paidtoo much attention to the objective factors such as the limited educational expenditure,the deficient teaching facilities and the incompetent professional qualities of teachers.As a result, some other factors are ignored. We used to think that local governments have limited educational expenditure,which causes the deficient teaching facilities and resources in school. The fact is withthe help of nation's preferential policies, schools in the western part of China havealready had safe and adequate schoolhouses and modem facilities for a better teaching.Schools in the western region are no longer the dark and shaky houses that we used tothink of. Thus the teaching facilities are not the cause of poor education. It is the ideasand conceptions of local governors and school headmasters that should be concerned.

Conclusion
In a summary,we've observed that (1) there are various causes of poor Englisheducation in Guizhou, such as limited educational expenditure, lack of teachers, andthe incompetence of teachers' professional qualities. (2) However, what they reallyneed to change is not external causes but their internal ideas and attitudes towardsEnglish education which are students' mistaken views on English learning, teachers’inactive attitude in teaching and school's over emphasis on scores.Nevertheless, (3) their outstanding features should not be neglected. Schools aremaking unremitting effort to improve education quality; teacher-student relationshiparc closer than other places, and teachers are imparting not only knowledge but alsolife experience; students are talented and reliable, have strong sense of responsibilitiesto family.Therefore, (4) people from the eastern part of China need to respect their features,to assess their education and people's personalities fairly and comprehensively.
