m (1996), after making an analysis of the features of “bei+NP” in Chinese passive construction, shows the differences of English and Chinese passive sentence. Mc Enery & Richard (2004) conduct a corpus-based contrastive study of passive constructions in English and Chinese. They point out that passive constructions in English and Chinese are  different  in  the  frequency  of  use,  the  syntactic  features  and  functions  and  the semantic  properties  and  genre  distributions.  Toyota  (2008)  classifies  be-passives  into three kinds: the adjective passives, the resultative passives and the verbal passives. Although  researchers  in  other  countries  have  made  a  lot  of  contributions,  much more contributions and achievements have been made in China. Studies in China will be  introduced  from  four  main  categories,  namely,  studies  in  general  and  studies  from the perspectives of structures, functions and cognition.

The  final  chapter  of  this  thesis  will  draw  the  present  study  to  a  conclusion  by  a summary  of  process  and  major  findings  of  the  study,  and  a  brief  illumination  of  its implications and limitations.  

5.1 Summary of the Process and Findings of the Study
