re syntactic heads of the noun phrase they appear in” (Abney, 1987:267). On the other hand, Deg P selects AP the same way as DP selects NP. To approve that adjective phrase is the projection of Deg, Abney (1987) proves that degree words are unique to adjectives. To approve this, Abney (1987) discusses four types of phrases: adjective phrases, adverb phrases, quantifier phrases and preposition phrases. Abney (1987) proposes that in (3d), far is not Deg but quantifier. While the other two phrases, quantifier phrase and adverb phrase are the subclasses of adjective class. In this case, Deg is unique to adjective classes. And a conclusion can be made that adjective phrase is the projection of Deg. It seems that some adjectives may resist degree words. However, Abney (1987) argues that just like the existence of an empty D in the noun phrases, there must be empty degree words in these adjective phrases. And adjective phrases are consistently Deg Ps. All we need to do is to explain why there are no overt degree words in these adjective phrases. It is interesting to notice that unlike noun phrases, usually there are no overt Degs in the adjective phrases. But this will not make a big difference in the syntax level of Deg P since it is motivated by semantics. In conclusion, Abney (1987) assumes that adjective phrase is the projection of Deg, which at the same time includes quantifier phrases and adverbs phrases.

2.2 Pysz’s Analysis of Adjectives
Pysz (2006) proposes that adjectives are adjuncts in the nominal phrases. It seems perfect to analyze adjectives as adjuncts. First, analyzing adjectives as adjuncts helps to explain the iteration of adjectives in the nominal phrases. For another thing, analyzing adjectives as adjuncts help to explain the different surface positions of adjectives. In nominal phrases, adjectives are found either preceding or following the nouns. However, it is not fair for Pysz (2006) to assume that “adjectives are adjuncts to the maximal projection of the nominal head, to its intermediate projection or to the nominal head itself.” To begin with, adjectives’ order cannot be free. Freidin (1992) proposes that the basic property of adjuncts is their free orders. (5a) expresses a normal sequential order and it is a normal proper way to describe the properties of a car. However, in (5b), it provokes a focal stress, emphasizing the color of the car. Thus, it shows that both adjectives and adverbs display clear order restrictions. The disorder of adjectives or adverbs will provoke a focal stress. At the same time, if we analyze adjectives as adjuncts, there will be no limitation of the number of adjectives in a noun phrase. And this again violates the fact that there are limited amount of adjectives found within DP. As the analysis shown above, it is not likely for adjectives to be adjuncts. &nb
