Conclusion 

Based  on  the  previous  studies  of  adjectives,  this  thesis  tries  to  further  explore  some classic  problems  of  adjectives  within  phase  theory.  These  classic  problems  include  the classifications of adjectives, the syntactic status of adjectives and adjectives’ derivation in phase theory. Adjectives  in  noun  phrases  have  been  studied  by  many  linguists.  They  try  to  provide answers to the syntactic status of adjectives. Abney (1987) believes that adjectives are heads in  DP.  Adjective  phrases  are  the  projections  of  Degs,  which  at  the  same  time  includes quantifier phrases and adverbs phrases. Pysz (2006) proposes that adjectives are adjuncts in the  nominal  phrases.  Sproat,  R.  and  C.  Shih.  (1988)  proposes  that  adjectives  should  be analyzed  as  relative  clauses.  Scott  (2002)  proves  that  adjectival  distribution  follows  the pattern of adverbial distribution. Scott (2002) proposes that adjectives are specifiers of their semantic  related  distinct  functional  projections.  Cinque  (1995)  proposes  that  in  both Germanic  languages  and  Romance  languages,  the  base  position  of  adjectives  in  nominal phrases is preceding the nouns. He also argues that noun movement is the reason to explain the different surface positions of adjectives. To further illustrate this idea, he explores three types  of  adjectives.  They  are  thematic  adjectives,  attributive  adjectives  and  predicative adjectives.  In  this  thesis,  I  agree  with  Cinque  (1995).  Adjectives  should  be  classified  into three  types.  They  are  thematic  adjectives,  attributive  adjectives  and  predicative  adjectives. The base positions of thematic adjectives and attributive adjectives are before the nouns. The base positions of the predicative adjectives are after the nouns and the complements.
