Depending on the research of the effect of Mind Mapping-based Senior High Englishteaching on learners’ speaking competence, the major findings are as follows:As current oral English situation shows, learners have less motivation and fewerinterests for English speaking because oral English isn’t a part of college entrance exam. Theyonly learn English as a subject mechanically to get high marks, not a communicative tool.When they communicate with others, they can just speak words, not complete sentences.They have lots of ideas and thoughts but they can’t express themselves clearly and logically.Meanwhile, most of the teachers in Senior High school pay more attention to grammarteaching, reading and writing and pay less attention to learner’s oral English. They only teachfor boasting a high college bound rate. They design and present English classes using less oralEnglish. Their teaching methods are single and repetitive, only for helping learners gettinghigh marks. It goes against the requirements of National English Curriculum.
