Chapter Four Results and Discussion

This chapter examines the results related to the research question,focusing on the discussion for the research question. At last,countermeasures for translation teaching of English majors in highervocational colleges have been presented.

4.1 Results for Research Questions

For the pre-test, there are two basic factors that need to bereviewed. One is the time that students spend to complete the translationtest and the other is the examination scores. Sixty students are able tocomplete test within 45 minutes. As for examination scores, T test ofindependent sample is used to display the results in the table below.Group one stands for the experimental group and the control groupaims at group two. 'N' means the number of representatives of the group.'Std. Deviation' means the standard deviation. 'DF' refers to the degreeof freedom in the table set of statistics. For the mean of two groups, theyare almost the same regarding the numbers of 10.67 and 10.63. Std.deviations of two groups are almost the same by comparing the numbersof 2.905 and 3.011. In Table 4-2, for the independent sample tests, there isa T test for equality of means. The original hypothesis was significantdifference degree between group one and group two. 'Sig. (2-tailed)'refers to the two-tailed probability. If the probability of P <0.05, thereare significant differences between group one and group two. From thetable 4-2, the number of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.965, which means theprobability is very close to 1, and the degree of the significant differencebetween group 1 and group 2 can be zero and two groups are equal.Therefore, according to the statistics that are mentioned above, it can beconcluded that there is no significant difference between group one andgroup two and they are parallel groups.
