从语用学探讨老友记中的话语标记语So
基于前人的研究，本文选取了《老友记》中话语标记语So为例子，从关联理论的角度来分析它的语用功能并且探讨如何让它的这种语用功能在翻译中体现出来。So作为话语标记语在不同语境下表现出不同的语用功能，它不构成话语的基本语义或命题意义，但却具有丰富的语用效应。
Introduction
Discourse marker is a kind of common linguistic phenomenon,which is pervasively used in daily communication.They do not belong to any certain syntactic category or do not indicate object,things,but these little words contribute a lot to human communication.Discourse markers are expressions as follows:and,so,but,well,furthermore,after all etc.
Discourse markers cover a wide range of words but there are no generally accepted definitions of them in the fields of linguistics.Since 1970s,the linguistic scholars from different research schools have made great progress on the study of discourse markers.In general,there are three approaches applied to the study of discourse markers,the coherence-based approach which represented by Schiffrin and Redeker;the grammatical-pragmatic approach represented by Fraser;the pragmatic-cognitive approach represented by Blakemore and Rouchota.Discourse markers are very crucial in daily life,they are the devices used to achieve the communicative function that contributes to the implement and the comprehension of a discourse.
This paper focuses primarily on the discourse marker so.The discourse marker so is commonly understood to have inferential functions.For example,Schiffrin(1987) argues that it has the basic meaning of result(at the discourse level of facts),inference (at the level of knowledge),and actions(as opposed to motive).Blakemore(1992) points that so has been described as constraining implicatures.In abroad,there are many scholars do research on this word,but in China,there are not so many.In this paper,the author chooses a famous American sitcom Friends as the material.Friends is wildly loved by audiences from many countries.In this sitcom,so is frequently used by the speakers and it plays a very significant role in daily communication.Why do the speakers like using this kind of word in the communication?In this paper,the author analyzes the pragmatic functions of so which based on the relevance theory.
However,for our Chinese audience how do we understand this little word when we enjoy it?And most Chinese researchers discuss this word without considering its translation.In this paper the author tries to explore its translation as well and hope to help the sitcom lovers have a better understand of its humor and spirit,at the same time could contribute a little to discourse marker study in the future.
