Therefore, the study may have both theoretical and practicalsignificance because of its exploratory and primary research in this field.Firstly, the study may provide a perspective to analyse literature works by usingCP and PR Secondly, through the analysis of characters' utterances in Teahouse, wecould have a better comprehension for this play，and also we will understandcharacters' personality better. And finally, from some findings out of the analysis，we can leam what kind of person often violates the maxims, what kind of maxims areoften violated and what strategies are often used to convey conversationalimplicatures. Actually, our daily communication is controlled by the PP and the CPunconsciously or consciously.

　　
　　1.3 Research Methodology研究方法论
　　This dissertation proposes to conduct a qualitative case analysis from theperspectives of CP and PP. Under the guidance and direction of the theoreticalframework of CP and PP, the dissertation will analyse the characters' utterances in theplay Teahouse, probe into the production and interpretation of the conversationalimplicatures, and enquire into the characters' communicative strategies and skills indaily communication.

　　
　　1.4 Dissertation Organization论文结构
　　This dissertation is composed of five chapters. Chapter one is an introductionpart. _In this part, research background, research significance, research methodologyand dissertation organization will be introduced. After reading this chapter, you willget an overview of the dissertation. Chapter two is literature review part. Inchapter two, the play Teahouse and its author Laoshe will be presented. Laoshe'slife experience will be described in detail in this part and a brief introduction toTeahouse will also be provided. Chapter three is the part of theoretical framework.Grice's Cooperative Principle, Leech's Politeness Principle and Brown andLevinson's Politeness Theory will all be illustrated in this chapter besides somemaxims under these principles. Chapter four is a study of characters' utterances inTeahouse, This part is the most important part for the whole dissertation, in thischapter, a great number of characters' utterances extracted from Teahouse will beanalysed with theories of CP and PR Still in this part, the function of conversationalimplicatures in characters' utterances will be elaborated. Chapter five is theconclusion part. As it is called, this part aims to conclude the whole dissertation.All the chapters above will be summarized in this part and followed by somelimitations of this dissertation and suggestions for further research.
