Chapter 4 Criteria on Title Translation of TV Game
4.1 Precision and Faithfulness
In translation principles, faithfulness and precision are always the importantcriterions in translation. Good translations can not only deliver the producer’s originalthoughts to customers, but also can make the TV games more comprehensible. It is truethat good translations will not interrupt the readers’ understandings or produce anyambiguities.As the dissertation has mentioned above, the basic strategies of translation aredomestication and foreignization. In foreignization, title translations of TV games can bedivided into two ways. They are word-for-word translation and transliteration. Anddomestication translation consists of amplification and reduction methods. No matterwhat translation strategy is used in translation, precision and faithfulness should befollowed by translators in title translation of TV games.In principles of precision and faithfulness, some translators often make mistakes inthose two aspects. On the one hand, when the translators use the Degree Words, theyoften like to exaggerate the meanings of the words for huge publicity. Provided translatorenlarges the word’s meaning, it may bring the big sales and huge benefits. On the otherhand, some nonexistent meanings of word are used in title translations to exaggerate thetranslation of the titles. It is not faithful for the title translations of TV games. These twomistakes are in spite of the basic translation principles of precision and faithfulness. Inthis part, criteria will be analyzed with some examples.

Conclusion
Since Venuti has presented the foreignization method, there is a great shock in thearea of translation. Before that, Nida’s domestication theory has occupied the mainideological trend of translation. In Nida’s opinion, translation is an important process togive service to target language people. In other words, translation just works for literaryhabit of target language people. After the foreignization theory is presented, people knowthe importance of cultural exchange in translation. Scholars and translators think thecommunication function is the main function of translation. From then on, thecontroversy between domestication and foreignization becomes the main problem intranslation area.TV game has been widely developed in last century with the high developedtechnology of computer. With the development of TV game machine, every person hasaccess to the charm of TV game. In the 21stcentury, SONY’s second generation gamemachine is approved to enter the Chinese market with the official rights. Both thehardware and software of TV game face the big challenges in Chinese market. Both theimprovement of TV game and game translation are the urgent tasks which the companiesand local authorized agencies should undertake. In fact, title translation of TV game is themost urgent task in China.
