 are  the  most  commonly  seen  duplication  forms  in  Chinese.  (Xing  Hongbing, 2000)  Different  scholars  hold  different  viewpoints  towards  the  scope  and  types  of duplication forms in Chinese. Verbal duplication form has become the focal point in the field of the duplication form  study  and  it  is  still  under  debate  on  what  kind  of  structures  verbal  duplication form  should  have.  In  regard  to  the  scope  of  verbal  duplication  form,  most  scholars hold that there are four types of verbal duplication forms. They are AA, A 了 A, A 一A,  and  A 了一 A.  (Fan  Fanglian,  1964;  Liu  Yuehua,  1983;  Li  Yuming,  1998)In addition  to  the  four  verbal  duplication  forms,  Zhang  Jing  (1979)  suggests  that  two more  valid  forms  should  be  included,  which  are  A 着 A 着  and  AABB.  In  her  view, these six types of verbal duplication form are different grammatical forms rather than the collocation of verbs in sentence construction. Li Renjian (1964) holds a different view in stating that   A 着 A 着, A  啊 A 啊  are just the collocation of verbs and could not be seen as duplication forms. Moreover, he suggests that there are only two forms of  verbal  duplication,  AA  form  for  single  syllables  and  ABAB  for  double  syllables. Other forms like A 一 A, A 了 A should not be considered as duplication forms. Zhu Dexi (1982) and Li Shan (2003) takes the same idea of believing that AA and ABAB are the only two verbal duplication forms in Chinese. Since there is a plentiful use of A 一 A form in verbal duplication, the present study takes the view that in addition to AA and ABAB, A 一 A type should be included in verbal duplication as well.
