aid to the ability of students’ written English while oral English lacks due attention. “Dumb English” is still there. Although many students can get high score in the written test, but in the actual English language communication environment, students can’t speak English fluently. Their spontaneous speech is always filled with disfluent repetitions. In addition, language is a tool that people use to communicate with others. Therefore, disfluent repetitions come up in the process of communication due to different situations. Research on disfluent repetitions can promote the development of communication
strategy. Speaking a second language is not an easy task for most people, even the English majors. Sometimes they are at a loss for the grammar and usage, due to the lack of proficiency or some other factors. It is almost impossible for any speaker to have a perfect plan about what to say and how to say it in his mind before uttering it. Therefore, disfluent repetitions are common in their oral production. Since analyzing disfluent repetitions will definitely provide an insight for people to know the characteristics as well as the weak points of English learners in everyday communication, it is important to figure out the role of disfluent repetitions in oral English production.

Chapter II Literature Review
2.1 Basic concepts
This paper mainly involves two concepts: disfluency and disfluent repetitions. Disfluency is one of the most prevalent phenomena in Chinese English learners’ oral output, and disfluent repetitions are one of the main types of disfluencies.etimes they are at a loss for the grammar and usage, due to the lack of proficiency or some other factors. Actually, they are not so fluent in speaking English. It is almost impossible for any speaker to have a perfect plan about what to say and how to say it in his mind before uttering it, which causes disfluency in speech production (Finkler, 1997:165). Disfluent repetitions are a prevalent language phenomenon in second language. Blackmer and Mitton (1991) put repetitions at the beginning of phonological phrases down to an “autonomous restart capability” within the speaker, based on which existing speech plans are restarted if new material does not arrive in time.
