摘要:论文的第一章是一个简单的介绍,涉及到本文研究的目的和意义,同时本文的大体布局有所规划,根据介绍,读者对本文可能会产生一个基本的印象。变形一词本出自于希腊语,而形态学则是语言学的一个分支,尤其是形态学中的词汇学,它研究词的内部结构和规则,比如有一词多义,这也是属于形态学中语法的一个分支,它侧重于对结构和形式的研究,形态学的本质则是构词法。
2.2.2 Productivity as a qualitative notion
Productivity can be conceived as a qualitative, either-or notion: either an affix can be used to coin new words or it cannot be . This view is advocated by, e.g., Bauer (1983, p.99-100), who does not consider semi-productivity a useful construct. Plag (2006, p.540), on the other hand, proposes three categories of morphological processes: those clearly unproductive, those clearly productive and those in between. When we refer to qualitative aspects of productivity, it mainly talks about unintentionality and uncountability.
The first task is analyzing unintentionality is to distinguish between 'unintentional expansions of the lexical stock by the unconscious implantation of word formation rules on the one hand and the intentional creation of new words in order to produce a special effect on the other' (Plag, 1999, p.13). 'Unintentionality” refers to morphological productivity and 'intentional creation of new words in order to produce a special effect' is referring to morphological creativity. The new words formed by creativity are usually understood as remarkable and often has a humorous or repulsive effect. While truly productive new words are typically not noticed as such by the speakers. Many researchers admit the importance of distinguishing between intentional and unintentional creations. They claim that new words on the basis of the productive process are unnoticed while those on the base of unproductive pattern always draw attention to the speakers. Arnoff ever suggested that 'with truly productive formations speakers often cannot tell whether the form is a neologism or not' (Plag, 2003, p.56). However, there are objections to this issue. The notion of unintentionality is quite vague. Some speakers get a higher level of awareness of the operation of linguistic features than others. Thus, it is hard to tell how unintentionality is operationalized. Even if we put the doubts and unintentionality away, this assumption is still unnecessary because various productive processes can be adopted intentionally.
Another aspect of qualitative notion of productivity is the problem of uncountability. Linguists Schultink suggests that 'productive rules give rise to an in principle uncountable number of forms whereas unproductive rules can only yield a fixed, countable, and presumably small number of derivatives' (Plag, 2003, p.15). This can be illustrated with suffix-th and -ness. The unproductive suffix -th can simply attach a few bases with limited numbers while productive suffix -ness can combine with almost any English base with an infinite numbers. That is to say. Uncountability may be seen as the indicator of productive or unproductive process. However, this kind of approach is not very convincing. An affix may attach prod本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
