questionnaire had both open ended and closed ended questions. Appropriate forms of questions were used depending on the information sort, the sampled respondents and the kind of analysis intended. The questions were simple and logical. The questionnaire contained simple but straight forward directions for the respondents so that they don't feel any difficulty in answering the questions. The respondents were expected to read and understand the questions and write down the reply in the space provided on the questionnaire itself. The method has the advantages of low costs, freedom from bias of the interviewer, adequacy of time to give well thought out answers, convenience in reaching respondents, and that large samples can be made use of and the results can be more dependable and reliable. In addition to questionnaire, the primary data was obtained through interview methods and schedules.

3.6 Data analysis

Data was analysed mainly by use of statistics such as frequency distribution tables and percentages. The data analysis involved the following closely related operations:- scanning by checking the entire questionnaire to ensure that they are complete and instructions are followed, establishment of categories, the application of these categories to raw data through coding for purposes of analysing and finally the tabulation of data in tables for each question in order to draw statistical inferences.

CHAPTER FOUR

4.0 RESEARCH FINDINGS, RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

4.1 Introduction

The chapter provides and discusses the results of the study. It provides the research findings and results from the respondents based on the questionnaires that they filled.

4.2 Results and findings

4.2.1 Personal information

The response rate was 93.3% with 56 out of the 60 sample respondents filling the questionnaires duly. This is a representative response. Thus the generalizations from the sample's answers is considered as applicable to the entire population. Of the 56 responses, 62% (35) were male with the other 38% (21) were female( table 4.1 and figure 4.1)

Of the 56 responses, the stratification of management, the staff and the general members, the response of 10 were from the management, 8 were staff whereas 38 were general members of the SACCOs (table 4.2)

4.2 Response by category

The respondents were asked to indicate the length of time they have been in their respective SACCOs. The response indicated that 37% had been in the SACCO for between 5-10 years whereas another 30% for below 5years. 20 % of the respondents have been in the SACCO for between 10 - 15 years and 13% have been there for at least 15 years(table 4.3)
