1. Introduction
Mass media has long been a significant role in shaping people’s general concept about the world, as media continues spreading not only the enormous information to public, but also portray the general framing of view which regarding public daily experiences. There are numbers of minorities in the society, these groups are non-dominant, and they may have different belief, language, and skin color from the mainstream groups. Every country has complicated problems in race, ethnic and religion, those problems always raise public attentions and they are argued fiercely by public. However, mass media provide an overall negative portray of those minority groups in the early age. With the development of media, and the increasing population of minority groups, minorities tend to be more often appearing in the screen such as news, films and other TV program. Thus, it is impressive that most of the minorities are neglected, stereotyped and misrepresented by media, sometimes they are regarded as dangerous group in the society. For example, Wilson and Gutierrez (1995) mentioned that Mexicans in some early American films were shaped as the vilest characters, which were participating in rape, killing, and robbery and assassinate. The Mexican government had written remonstrated document to the United Stated, and forbid some of the American films, but it was ignored with no respond. Therefore, it can be seen that the stereotypes and the prejudices of non-white are portrayed by media.

This essay starts with presenting the definition of minority group, and then present that the media portray minorities negatively in different aspects such as TV, press, films, and detriments. After that, non-whites will be represented as a threat to the society. Lastly, the defending of the media is presented.
