The economy affects families in a range of ways; it affects parents jobs, income, services and housing. Low-socioeconomic status has been found to cause social exclusion of families; this can cause stress on the family. Parents who are unemployed can have a negative impact on a childs wellbeing

The government is another external influence that can impact the child and their family. The government is in charge of legislations, policies and laws. Therefore any changes or additions to policies will affect the family and/or the child. This essay briefly looked at how the governments aims to share leave between mothers and fathers when their child was born, this can be seen to impact the family in a positive way. However the government can also cause problems for families, such as cutting child benefits.

The neighborhood is another external influence that can affect a familys lifestyle. The neighborhood impacts a range of things: housing, childcare, jobs and services. From my experience I found that neighborhoods benefit from working together and providing support for children. the services that are available to families and children in neighborhoods affect their lifestyle and development.
