摘要:在这篇论文中,主要是通过定量分析的方法,调查的影响力的英语阅读在中国的职业学校的非英语专业大学生的文化上的障碍因素。

English reading barriers can throwmore light on the teaching of foreign language, especially the college English reading.The present survey has three research objectives. The first one is to find out therelationship between English reading and culture teaching and list the researchquestions. The second one is to find out the representations of the cultural barriers incollege English reading such as cultural differences on vocabulary, on syntax, ondiscourse, in Politicshistory, religions, customs and even in mode of thinkingbetween English and Chinese.What is more important,the third objective is about how to solve the readingproblems caused by cultural factors. Therefore, some reading strategies are followed.English today is a most important language of cross-cultural communication andunderstanding around world,so we should stop for a while to contemplate the Purposeof EFL teaching since English is no more confined within one or two cultures. Thischallenge is that EFL teaching should help developing English learners' culturalawareness. Therefore,in this part, we pay much attention to foster EFL learners’cultural awareness. Therefore,fostering EFL learners' cultural awareness has grownto be a stringent necessity of the new setting of globalization and Internationalizationin EFL teaching.There are three research questions in this study;1. What are the predominant College English reading barriers in collegestudents' English reading? Are cultural factors the predominant ones?2. In what aspects do the cultural factors affect college students' Englishreading?3. How can we improve college students' English reading ability bydeveloping their ICC?


1.3 The Structure of the Thesis论文结构
After expounding the main purpose and research questions of the study, thissection will introduce the main structure of the thesis briefly. The whole dissertationconsists of five chapters:The current chapter is an introduction to the whole study. It addresses the aim ofthe research, the significance of the research, research questions and the structure ofthe thesis.The second chapter focuses on the review of literature relevant to the researchquestions. It provides an overall review of theoretical bases, theoretical and empiricalfindings in the relevant field. It also makes a clarification of some important concepts:reading barriers cultural barriers, cultural awareness and the development of thecultural awareness. Above a】],the conceptual framework of the present study ispresented,that is, Byram's model of intercultural communicative competence.Chapter Two and Chapter Three provide an overall review of theoretical bases,theoretical and empirical findings in the relevant fields as well as the conceptualframework of the present study.】n Chapter Four, it gives a detailed account of how the present study wasconducted and how the data were analyzed. Chapter Five focuses on the results anddiscussions. It summarizes the major findings of the study, presents its pedagogicalimplication, discusses the limitations and makes suggestions for future research.
