Conclusion


The improvement of reading ability is a comprehensive process. In addition to thepoints motioned above,the teacher also encourages the students to read extensively, tohelp students develop good reading habits. What's more, the improvement of readingability is not isolated. It is closely related to the comprehensive enhancement of listening,speaking, writing and reading. Therefore,in reading teaching,what the teacher should dois much more than those mentioned above in helping students build and activate theirbackground knowledge.
Many researches of the application of schema theory to the ESL reading teachinghave been conducted from different angles and valuable results have been achieved. Mostprevious studies focus on the importance of background knowledge in teaching. However,these researches are confined to colleges or universities. Few pay their attention to readingteaching in junior high schools. This thesis attempts to find out the theoretical and practicalfeasibility and effectiveness of schema theory in English reading teaching in junior highschools, which breaks through some traditional views in this field.The author thinks that the students in other schools as samples to repeat this study totestify the results of this experiment. In addition, based on this experiment, the study onschema theory and writing should serve as a focus for further research.
