Conclusion
At present our study chiefly focus on the investigation of the application ofcognitive strategies in non-English major students’ English reading comprehension.We start our survey with questionnaires and one semester’s strategy training. Byanalyzing the results, we find the answers to the three research questions mentionedabove. On the basis of the analysis of the statistics, respondents of this survey doapply cognitive strategies when they do English reading. After investigating into thisphenomenon, we find students who master a large vocabulary have developed severalgood habits in their English reading when using the strategies.In the present study, we select 12 cognitive strategies which consist of 36concrete strategies as investigation items. These 12 cognitive strategies areresourcing,translating,note-taking,deduction,imagery and auditory representation,key-word,contextualization,elaboration,transfer,inferencing,summarizing andrehearsal. By studying the rate of application of cognitive in English reading,it is easyto see that all the cognitive strategies are applied at high and medium rate. So we candraw a conclusion that non-English major students also use cognitive strategies intheir English reading.
