wo years, reading occupies alarge proportion in the English paper of the college entrance examination, which have a direct impact onstudents’ overall college entrance examination scores. Thus, comprehension has a vital role in the Englishreading examinations. Therefore, how to improve students’ reading comprehension, stimulate students’interest in reading, and high school English reading teaching methods become a major concern.The thesis mainly introduces a very important theory－Dual Coding Theory and puts this theory intopractical English reading process. Then we can get some implications from the application of the theory.The thesis is based on the Dual Coding Theory applied in the high school English reading teaching, whichis adapted to the new ordinary high school English curriculum standards (2003) and based on the cognitivedevelopment in the proposed developing demand. Senior high school English curriculum emphasize on thefurther development of the comprehensive ability to use language, and focus on the improvement ofstudents’ access to information in English and the ability to analyze problems and problem-solving skills.
