previous domestic researches  of  code-switching,  most  of  them  are  qualitative,  analyzing  its  structure, functions and so on. There are few quantitative researches to study the real situations of code-switching  in  classroom.  Therefore,  the  author  of  this  thesis  goes  into  classroom, obtaining first-hand, real and natural linguistic data by classroom observation along with teaching  recording  in  order  to  conduct  researches  of  code-switching  in  class  from  a comprehensive perspective. Combined  qualitative  research  methods  with  quantitative  methods  of code-switching,  this  thesis  selects  two  main  courses,  intensive  reading  course  and literature  course,  as  research  subjects  to  do  the  related  researches  of  code-switching which  is  mainly  concerned  with  the  frequency,  the  classifications,  the  functions,  the features  and  the  reasons  of  code-switching  in  English  major  classroom.  Finally, according to the analysis this thesis puts forward a series of pedagogical implications for the future teaching. This thesis aims to supplement the researches of code-switching in classroom in a practical way in accordance with qualitative studies, attracting teachers’ attention to the frequency of  using  code-switching  in  class  and  making  them  to  realize how  to  adjust  their  teaching  methods  in  class,  that  is,  using  code-switching  in  an appropriate way and enabling it to become a teaching strategy to facilitate and improve teaching.

Chapter 2   Literature Review 

2.1 Literature Review on Code-Switching 
Code-switching  is  a  special  language  phenomenon  with  a  very  long  history. According  to  Gumperz,  the  researches  of  code-switching  can  be  date  back  to  Middle Ages.  In  a  few  past  centuries,  code-switching  occurred  in  different  languages  and cultures environment around the world has been documented. Nowadays, where there is language contact, there is code-switching because language contact is one of the key and direct  reasons  why  code-switching  occurs.  Language  contact  exists  in  an  environment where  different  languages  system  interacts.  With  increasing  cultural  communication between  countries  throughout  the  world,  the  opportunities  for  language  contact  raise, which leads to code-switching happening frequently. At present, code-switching has been a very common phenomenon worthy of an all-round study.
